Lady Spartan Basketball Mission Statement
The Lady Spartans Basketball program is designed to help the Student-Athlete to develop as a basketball player and a person. Our goal is to prepare the Student-Athlete for their future endeavors after High School. To do this, we will be teaching the Student-Athletes throughout the program, fundamental basketball skills and also the value of team play and individual responsibilities as they grow through the program and venture out to college and beyond.
Lady Spartan Basketball Core Values
Teamwork: work together and work hard in a cooperative spirit
Respect: respect ourselves and others while embracing our diversity
Balance: commit ourselves to our program while maintaining focus on the importance of academics and community involvement
Ownership: hold ourselves and each other accountable for our words and our actions
Citizenship: be responsible and dedicated Student-Athletes active in the community
Integrity: be true competitors striving to win by being better than the competition
Humility: be grateful for our opportunities, understanding that our participation in basketball is a privilege, not an entitlement
Sportsmanship: be gracious competitors regardless of the final score, always conducting ourselves with dignity under pressure and in the face of adversity.
Waynesville Youth Basketball Mission Statement
The primary mission of the WYB is to provide an environment in which our players are able to play, enjoy and learn the game of basketball. We do this by placing each player in the appropriate environment for him/her individually and by teaching solid basic and advanced basketball skills while instilling an appreciation of hard work, teamwork and good sportsmanship. In addition, it is also the mission of the club to be a "feeder" program for the Waynesville school's middle school and high school basketball programs; to provide a framework within which players can gain experience and develop their skills in preparation for playing and succeeding in these programs.
WYB PHILOSOPHY:
The WYB is the only area basketball club that seeks to field 1 to 2 competitive teams in each grade of competitive basketball (grades 3-6). Our #1 objective is to place kids on a team within our program where she will have a positive basketball experience. It is our sincere belief that our participants are best served by being given an opportunity to develop and grow while playing and being coached in a positive manner, in a “team first” environment and at a level of competition appropriate for their individual ability and competitive desire.
Goals of Each Grade Level
3rd grade – Players should learn the basic skills of ball-handling , passing and proper shooting form ( this is very important to make sure the player does not develop bad habits by shooting out of their range. Introduce the concept of man to man defense. All players should play as equally as possible in games.
4th grade – Continue with the goals set in the 3rd grade and increase intensity level of drills for each skill listed in the 3rd grade. Begin teaching basic motion offense and increase defense to work on help side man defense.
5th grade- All of above and develop man to man jump switch defense skills.
6th grade – Same as above and increase intensity on man jump and full court man jump defense. Offensively continue to work on skills and motion offense along with a flex set.
